Absolutely wonderful presentation. Can't thank you enough! I'm a newbie in SL and your tour made me forget this was a virtual world - seems so very real! I am hoping to get the powers that be in my state to at least give your presentation a chance to see the value of the real future of education! You've been an inspiration, more than you know! Thank you! Vicki Green (Vickster Volare)
I am a graduate student at Illinois State University and a requirement of one of my technology classes is to find educational blogs, post a comment, then summarize in my own blog. I have been listening to podcasts and reading articles about Second Life, so I am intrigued with your information on Second Life. I need to research the middle school Second Life and possibly join. The information for science was awesome. I teach U.S. history, so I need to look aroung Second Life and see what it can do for my classroom. I am going to check out the You tube synopsis you suggested. Thanks for your great ideas. Jody Brooks
I teach online classes at a college level and use Angel. Last fall after my students and I got frustrated with Angel IM we went looking for sites where we could interact. I happened on an article on Second Life and showed it to my students. Some investigated and gave it a resounding thumbs up. This semester I have found that fewer students have either come online, during my scheduled office hours, or even bothered to get an account.
Frankly, I think the best way to teach online would be to have a virtual campus as you do. The students could sign up for a variety of classes and interact with other students. But I have also found that community college students either don't have the resources or the time to explore this rich resource. I am hoping to interest more people in Second Life. I am glad that you are one of the good educators leading the charge into the virtual world.
