Here is a picture of Asa Eldridge¹s old home in Yarmouthport. Eldridge was the remarkable and capable captain of the well-known clipper ship, Red Jacket. Captain Eldridge set a record in 1854, sailing the Red Jacket from New York to Liverpool in 13 days.

Two years later, in 1856, he sailed back from Liverpool in command of the ship Pacific. The ship was lost at sea and Eldridge was never seen again.
