This quiet peaceful harbor makes it hard to believe that there was once battle activity here during the war of 1812.  The British ship, Newcastle, tried to frighten the people into paying $2,000 to the King.

When the residents of Rock Harbor refused, soldiers from the Newcastle captured some small boats in the
harbor and forced a local man to pilot their ship.  He then proceeded to run it aground in Yarmouth where it was captured by Cape Codders.
