In addition, she will work with you to develop whatever specialized presentation you would like in the areas of information literacy, educational technology, or technology gadgets! PRESENTATION DESCRIPTIONS (1 hour)
- Cure What Ails You: A Dose of Twitter for Every Day of the Year
- This session will review the basics of Twitter, talk a bit about the etiquette of Twitter, and explore hundreds of ideas of how Twitter can be used to expand the particpants' personal learning networks and also be used to support the instructional process.
- Score: Winning Strategies to Conquer Information Overload
- This presentation will provide tips, tricks, and resources to help educators manage their information flow. The discussion will include coverage of both hardware suggestions and Web-based applications that can streamline this process and will allow time for questions and audience contributions at the end.
- Shedding Light on Web 2.0
- Web 2.0 is all the rage! Take an enlightening journey through useful (and fun) online tools to help you grow both personally and professionally! Explore the capabilities of how these emerging tools can support professional development and learning for educators. Over thirty cool tools to support teaching and learning will be covered and participants will be ready to try them out on their own!
- Navigating Primary Sources on the Internet
- This presentation will provide participants with strategies, tips, and tricks on the best ways to use many different types of primary sources in each of the major content areas, including math, social studies, science, ELA, foreign language, health, geography, and the visual arts. The participants will come away with an understanding of how to easily locate these materials and how to use them to support teaching and learning, and also be introduced to some of the great primary resource portals on the Web.

Using Public Service Announcements in the Classroom
- This presentation will provide participants with a background into how the PSA can be used to support teaching and learning by outlining ways to use, and have students create, public service announcements to support the content areas. Reminisce with some of the old favorites, become familiar with the qualities of a well-done PSA, and view some award-winning student productions!
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS
- Commnicate, Collaborate, Compose, Create, and Contribute:
Utlizing Web 2.0 Tools to Broaden Your Personal Learning Network
- This hands-on workshop will provide participants with solutions for expanding their professional learning network, allow them to understand the power of collaboration to support professional development, and provide them with the knowledge-base to make connections between using these tools for their own learning and using them for support of student instruction. (1/2 or whole day)
- The Computer as a Door

Learning about online tools and then having immediate hands-on practice with them in a pedagogically-sound exercise is what drives this successful workshop. Understanding the importance of educational technology to support teaching and learning can be looked at in many different ways. After a short overview of online collaborative tools and utilities, participants will have a change to utilize these collaborative tools to reflect on several short videos. Each participant will be assigned a role (parent, teacher, student, etc.) and will view and respond to the videos through the eyes of their role as well as create their own PSA.
- Google Sites to Support Teaching and Learning
- This workshop will provide participants with an extensive overview of the types of tools available in Google Sites, as well as provide guided practice as each participant sets up their own Google Site. Ideas for their use will be brainstormed and shared with the group. (1/2 day)
