Begin this part of the investigation by reading Shannon Faulkner and the Media. Write a one page essay addressing the following questions:

Locate

You will recall from your readings that news reporters have often been accused of ignoring or omitting important but unexcitng stories. Select four articles using a mix of print and on-line sources. Use the list of sites on the home page. Look for articles on any of the following topics or any topic of a similar focus. Take notes on what you found for a discussion. Be prepared to share your findings.

Any article on AIDS research, the budget deficit, nuclear arms reduction or buildup, the growth of part-time employees, simplification of the tax code, or lobbies and their role in government, would work for this assignment.

Evaluate

Prepare a Bias Detection Chart which you will use to rate your articles for bias. Use The Media Bias Scorecard and How to Detect Bias in the News to help you.
